Abstract:

Gamma irradiation was used at different doses (80, 160 and 240 Gy) on Glycine Max (L.) Merrill cv. Hill homogenous seeds. A single suitable M2 plant was selected and evaluated at M3 and M4 along with its parent and three other varieties as control in RCBD experiment in Sari Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources University’s experimental field. M-80-709 and M-160-3429 mutant lines were significantly shorter (55.05 and 72.04 cm respectively). Their branch numbers were however significantly more (8.70 and 11.53 respectively) compared to the parent cultivar (80.82 cm and 6.10 respectively) and other genotypes (p≤0.05), when calculated on per plant basis. Besides, the M-160-3429 was characterized by highest grain yield and oil content (38.25 g and 19.22% respectively), in compare with its parent (12.73 g and 19.09% respectively) and all others control cultivars (p≤0.05). The M-160-3429 mutant line with high grain yield and oil content accompanied with some other favorite morphological traits can be considered as a new promising line of soybean for future studies. Results from this study suggested that mutation breeding procedures at the ranges of 80 to 160 Gy is a capable me‌thod for breeding higher grain yield including increasing the oil content as well.

Effect of Gamma Irradiation on Some Biochemical Parameters and Physico-chemical Properties of Oil in Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] .

The soybean (Glycine max l. merr) is one of oil seed plants from leguminous family. In this study, the effect of gamma radiation on chlorophyll, soluble and insoluble carbohydrate and composition oil seeds were investigated in soybean. Soybean variety J.K was irradiated with 0,100,200 and 300 gamma ray. The treatment and control seeds planed in with four replicates. The highest amount of total ...

Assessment of seed storage protein composition of six Iranian adopted soybean cultivars [Glycine max (L.) Merrill.]

Seed protein quality is an important topic in the production of soybean. The quality of soybean proteins is limited by anti-nutrient proteins and low levels of essential sulfur amino acids. In this study, protein content and solubility of six cultivars were evaluated and seed storage proteins were analyzed using SDS-PAGE and scanning densitometry. The results showed that seed storage protein ba...

Study on genetic variability and traits interrelationship among released soybean varieties of India [Glycine max (L.) Merrill]

Information on the economic characters was derived from ninety-two varieties of soybean. Analysis of variance was carried out for the data recorded on plant height, nodes plant, branches plant, 100-seed weight, days to 50 % flowering, days to maturity, grain yield, oil and protein content. Results revealed highly significant differences among varieties for all the characters. High heritability ...

Genetic variation in an inbred plant: variation in tissue cultures of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill].

Although soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] grows as an inbreeding, generally homozygous, plant, the germplasm of the species contains large amounts of genetic variation. Analysis of soybean DNA has indicated that variation of RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) markers within the species usually entails only two alleles at any one locus and that mixtures of such dimorphic loci acco...

Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr].

In this chapter we describe an Agrobacterium tumefaciens transformation method of soybean that utilizes mature half seeds and regeneration from the cotyledonary node region. This method results in fertile transformed soybean plants and transgenic seed in approximately 9 months. Using mature half seeds as starting material has proven to be a reliable method that does not require additional wound...
